In this course, children will enjoy a creative array of art projects that will usher them into the world of classical drawing and painting- from whimsical frescoes in Venice, to the playful illustrations of N.C. Wyeth. A contemporary art work is then pulled up from the present day, and children are shown the classical principles that are seen in their daily world- from the delightful watercolor backgrounds of "Calvin and Hobbes", to the modeling of form in "How to Train your Dragon."

Next, children begin an activity at the easel. From drawing copies of Greek Statues with charcoal, to drawing a fun self portrait in a mirror, to doing a painting of their favorite toy, young children really enjoy learning classical principles of drawing and painting, in the familiar context of their everyday world.

For Director Kevin McEvoy, the Classical Art for the Very Young program hits close to home. Having three young boys, Kevin identifies the importance of offering an art program that is not just the typical "glitter and glue" art program, in which children learn very little. This course is carefully structured to relay important principles of drawing and painting to young minds, all within the fun, engaging context of a child's world.
