Still life painting is an excellent opportunity to delve deeper into the craft of oil painting. From the application of rich impastos to the scraping down with a palette knife, to charcoal studies, to color harmonies, this course is designed to welcome the beginner painter, and engage the advanced painter.
In this class, students will first work on designing still life arrangements in the studio, and will then progress to producing graphite or charcoal sketches of these arrangements. Once the student has displayed a sufficient understanding of form, they will then proceed on to oil painting. Great attention will be paid to draughtsmanship, relative values, and observing the flow of light over form. While great emphasis is placed on the observation of three dimensional form, students are simultaneously encouraged to design in the two dimensional realm.
**NOTE** There will be no morning or afternoon classes held Monday, March 25th - Friday, March 29th due to a workshop. Please check class calendar to ensure you are up to date on the Spring I semester schedule.
