Classical Art Foundations for Middle and High School Students

In this course we will concentrate on the fundamentals of classical drawing from Greek and Roman plaster casts using both graphite and charcoal. The students will learn the “sight size” method which will help them with observation of rendering correct proportions, halftones, shadow and value relationships. Once the student has explored drawing with graphite and charcoal they will begin painting in oil focusing on still life, here the student will incorporate  the same sight sizing method and take the painting to a finish in all aspects of proportions, halftones, shadows, value relationships and color. Realistic drawing and painting is the cornerstone of every creative endeavor, whether it be in the fine art field or illustration.
